St Leonard’s on Sea based Lodge St Michael No.4426 were approached by Lianne Buttrey of Hastings & Bexhill Mencap, to see if they would consider making a donation. There was a requirement for some wheelchair accessible wooden garden planters for their service users gardens. The group welcomed Lodge members into their bright and friendly activity room, where members were busy engaging in hands‑on learning and creative tasks.
The Lodge donated £600 and asked the Province of Sussex to match the donation, which they gladly did. £1,200 was subsequently donated. The Lodge also had a couple of brass plaques made up to be added to the planters. It was inspiring to see the dedication behind the scenes and the enthusiasm shared by everyone in the room. Lodge St Michael are proud to play a part in helping the group continue the important work Mencap do for the community.
